Adaptive City Mobility Leverages The Network Economy To Build A Fleet Electric Vehicle

A German start-up called Adaptive City Mobility (ACM) is undertaking the daunting task of designing and manufacturing a new vehicle from the ground up. The City One will begin series production in 2023, with the aim of providing an electric fleet vehicle for customers ranging from delivery services to ride-sharing operations. ทดลองเล่นสล็อตฟรีทุกค่าย

The Network Economy
ACM is a small team, on-track to grow to 50 employees by the end of 2021. They rely on what founder Paul Leibold calls “a network economy approach,” which allows them to out-source huge amounts of vehicle design and manufacturing responsibility to partners. Partnerships increase by a factor of 15 the size of the team, even though most of those team members are not ACM employees.

They contracted prototyping to Roding, production planning to HÖRMANN Automotive, and series manufacturing to an international Tier 1 automotive supplier. Downstream functions are also handled by partners. A partner manages vehicle leasing, and the digital platform is being developed by Porsche subsidiary MHP.

The result is currently a small fleet of test cars, an in-progress Series B investment round, plans to manufacture vehicles at scale, and a data management platform that will lower total cost of ownership for customers.

All of this resembles the long anticipated rise of “fab-less” automotive manufacturing — outsourced manufacturing that allows a small team of designers and executives to bring a vehicle to market, without themselves investing in capital-intensive production capacity.
